Conquer Growth: Do It For Your Crown

Conquer Growth: Do It For Your Crown

In what ways have you grown today, this week, month, or year? It is incredible with what a difference a day can make, let alone a year. Remember when we were talking about the many thoughts we have a day and most of them being negative? It goes to show how quick we can be to put ourselves down and our crown.

TURN THAT FROWN UPSIDE DOWN AND STRAIGHTEN YOUR CROWN

Worry not because as we age like wine, our self talk skills also improve. Yes, we learn how to “talk to ourselves” better. This also takes time and practice, along with a possible shift in cognitive thinking and the way we perceive and interpret things.

FOUR WAYS TO IMPROVE SELF TALK AND POSITIVE THINKING

  1. Treat Yourself as a Friend: We tend to give our friends the best advice and benefit of the doubt, but do not seem to do this for ourselves and take our own advice. Stop being so hard on yourself, queen.
  2. Identify Your Strengths and Recognize ANY Improvements: As a trained therapist, I noticed common themes amongst my former clients. It appeared they were still not happy with themselves or circumstances compared to before. One thing I would always ask is, “Has anything improved in any way since?” Automatically, they would be silent for a moment. Then, they surprisingly yet confidently answered, “Yes”. They would even say that they never even thought of it in that way before and appeared to be relieved and happy. In all, this helped them to redirect and reframe healthier, positive thinking while also recognizing how far they have already come. On a personal note, I was so lucky and fortunate to have an amazing supervisor and group of wonderful women to learn from during my last year in obtaining my Master’s Degree in Social Work (Shout out to the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program!)
  3. Embrace the Journey And The Feelings (Both Good and Bad): It is okay to feel the feelings. Embracing good and bad feelings is what makes us human and also helps us move forward in a healthy and functional way.
  4. Be Open To Learning: This is another lesson I learned from my amazing supervisor at the ABCP. Being open to learning enables growth and cultivates strengths we may never knew existed. This also aids in meeting new people, building connections, and networking to elevate both your personal and professional skills.

Do what works for you and keep on growing and learning, Queen. We are always in your corner rooting for you!
