PUTTING UNITY BACK IN COMMUNITY

Community is so important and vital to our life’s meaning. From our community, we are able to not only find a sense of belongingness and security, we are able to achieve goals, learn, network and build connections, reach our fullest potential, and gain prosperity and a legacy.
WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN?
A community is a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. Further, community also has the meaning of a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
Community can be or mean anything— regardless of the size. There are also communities within communities.
Sometimes we may not feel as connected to our communities as we would like to— we may have moved to a new place, or may even be a little shy to just walk up to someone, say hi, and start a conversation.
THREE WAYS TO FEEL MORE CONNECTED WITH YOUR COMMUNITY:
- Join a local group or organization: Get yourself out there and network! Join a group or organization that has meaning and value to you. This could be a local sports team, book group, or religious institution.
- Start a food exchange or Group of Your Own: Starting a small cooking or baking group can encourage you to meet new friends who share common interests and passions with you. This can also include a volunteer group or an exercise walk group that gets together every morning for a morning walk. (Yay for physical and social health!) Not only will you socialize but you will find purpose and strengthen and develop your organizational boss chick skills!
- Small Acts of Kindness and Compassion: If you notice a neighbor in need, for example someone who is having difficulty crossing the street, go ahead and help that person out. Participate in your community and get yourself more involved. Organize and help out with fundraisers, food drives, car washes, or community events. Say hi to your neighbor and start a conversation. Get your baking crew together and bake a cake for the local firefighters to show how thankful you are for their service and dedication. (chocolate, for me please!)
There are many ways to connect (and reconnect) to your community. Hold yourself accountable and take that step outside of your comfort zone. Do something wonderful for you and the world, Queen. The world is waiting…
