THE WORLD IS YOURS: THE BENEFIT OF STEPPING OUTSIDE OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE

"Life always begins with one step outside of your comfort zone." -Shannon L. Alder
Hey, Queen. Quick question for you...
When was the last time you stepped outside of your comfort zone?
Self growth stems from making this step outside of your comfort zone. This step and transition can be challenging, ambivalent, and not something one may be used to or know where to begin. Try to start with a passion or interest of yours. Or work on cultivating and building upon existing and new skillsets you possess in your field, for example. It is your choosing. So quit sleeping on yourself queens and get out there! Your world is waiting for you.
What have you been wanting to do but resistant or intimidated to?— is it starting that business? Going on that vacation? Studying for and passing that exam? Learning how to cook or bake? Your destiny awaits. You just need a little more inspiration and faith is all. You got this and we believe in you!
Sometimes, stepping outside of your comfort zone to motivate self growth is a transition that is planned and sometimes... not so much. Also, this kind of transition can be and mean anything depending on the person. It has a different meaning for everyone— kinda also like what we were chatting about the other day with what “spring cleaning” means to us. How is that going, by the way?!
Human development is ongoing and there are always ample opportunities for growth. This step outside of your comfort zone and transition to growth also aids in forming and building upon one’s own identity, which also happens to be stage 5 in Erik Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development. This stage in Erikson’s model, “Identity vs Confusion” and the virtue developed (Fidelity) is realized between the ages of 12 - 18 years old. This stage may be fulfilled earlier, “on time” or even later in life. It all depends on the person and certain factors. For me, stepping outside of my comfort zone came later in life. And I wouldn't want it any other way because I wouldn't be who I am today. In case you were wondering, it is totally okay to be older when this stage is fulfilled. And it is also important to NOT compare our story to others, judge, or put ourselves down. Stage completion is expected to vary among individuals. In all, and in theory, once one stage is completed, then you progress to the next. In this case, the next stage “Intimacy vs Isolation” would be next.
TRUST THE PROCESS
We are destined to find our own path; it cannot be rushed. Essentially, there may be grey areas and “timelines” can vary among everyone. This is so because we develop and learn in our own unique way and at our own pace.
THINK DIFFERENTLY: Challenge yourself, learn new perspectives, and listen to other opinions. Remember that learning and growing is everlasting and comes in different forms! This approach and state of mind must be paired with stepping outside of our comfort zones in order to truly and fully blossom into the 'lotus flowers' we are meant to be (Check out Lauren's recent blog, "The Lotus Flower as a Symbol of Rebirth and Renewal" and read more about this if you haven't yet! Thanks Queen!)
THE WORLD IS YOURS
We each have our own journey and story. And we are beautiful and unstoppable because of it. Overall, it is important to remember that we try to do our best each day by putting in the work and giving positive vibes. THIS IS WHAT QUEENS DO, OF COURSE.
So, let’s circle back and start brainstorming together, queens. Ask yourself, “What can I do (or have been wanting to do) to step outside of my comfort zone so I can further grow and develop my own life experiences, skills, and deepen my understanding?” Yes, pretty lengthy question I know. But still very much worth asking. You owe it to yourself! You have so much to offer, Queen.
FOOT FOR THOUGHT
The more you step outside of your comfort zone the more you grow and experience what this beautiful world has to offer and what you can also give back. And the more we grow, the more multifaceted we become. It’s important to be multifaceted as a person.
